Karkú, in the language of our native “Mapuches”, means “coming from the other side of the big water”. That is the concept that inspired the name of our brand: the dream of our team to take our wines to every single corner of the world, along with our efforts, our land and the passion from everyone that makes Karkú possible.

Karkú labels are a tribute to the natural energies that influence the viticultural process. In this case, the relation between the lunar and solar phases and how this is a key factor in the end result, expressed in each bottle.

The lunar cycle lasts for 28 days. During this period of time we have waning and crescent moon.

This cycle dictates our work in the field. When we have crescent moon, its influence accelerates the fluids in all living things and also in the environment: the tides rise and the sap flows with higher strength.

During the waning moon period the rhythm decreases, so it is the ideal moment to prune so the vine heals quicker. Also this is a good time to ferment the wine, as the decreased rhythms work in favor of the aromas and flavor’s empowerment.

On the other side, full moon is ideal for bottling, given the fact that the increased pressure on liquids produces a higher intensity and color in our wines.

Karkú Crepúsculo

Appellation: Valle del Maule, Chile

Grape Varieties: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon – 25% Carmenere – 10% Syrah – 5% Petit Verdot

The twilight is the brief moment that comes just before the sun coming out, and the moment just after sunset. The light spreads in all directions, and the horizon is painted with the most beautiful colors.

The twilight represents climax, a sublime moment of perfection. That is how we see our icon wine, an exceptional Assemblage, that combines the best of our land with the master craftmanship of our winemakers.

Our Icon “Crepúsculo” (twilight in Spanish) shows the perfect balance of the grape varieties selected for it. It’s a wine with a unique character, elegance and complexity, which reflects the experience, tradition and that unattainable search for perfection that motivates everyone at Karkú

Karkú Místico Gran Reserva

Appellation: Valle del Maule, Chile.

Grape Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere y Assemblage.

The sun present in our Gran Reserva range represents the New Moon, where the Earth blocks the sunlight over the moon, and produces a breathtaking light effect.

It is at this stage when the sap flows decreases and gets concentrated at the roots of the vines.

Gran Reserva “Mistico” is a homage to the old vines that we use for this range, the oldest from Maule Valley. These vines give the most impressive quality, highlighted by the great concentration of aromas and flavors.

Karkú Ancestral Reserva

Appellation: Valle del Maule, Chile. Valle de Curicó, Chile (Chardonnay)

Grape Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay.

We call Crescent Moon to the period that goes from New Moon to Full Moon. During this fase, the luminous Surface increases everyday.

The plant vitality increases with the moonlight. As close as we get to full moon, the plants get stronger.

Our Special Reserve “Ancestral” offers wines with vigor, but at the same time structured and well balanced, ideal to be enjoyed at special occasions.

Karkú Nocturno Varietal

Appellation: Valle del Maule, Chile.

Grape Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere, Sauvignon Blanc.

When the moon and the sun are aligned, and the earth is in the middle, the forces of both are combined and the sea effect is more intense. This is known as Full Moon.

This wine is a tribute to the Full Moon, and its contribution to the balance and steady quality that we achieve, year after year, in our varietal range, where the color, flavors and grape typicity are highlighted in each grape variety.
